Work on the N2/Ballito Interchange at a temporary standstill
MEDIA RELEASE issued by THE SOUTH AFRICAN NATIONAL ROADS AGENCY SOC LTD 06 February 2012 WORK ON THE N2/BALLITO INTERCHANGE AT A TEMPORARY STANDSTILL
The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) wishes to advise concerned public that work on the N2/Ballito Interchange is at a temporary standstill pending the appointment of a new contractor to complete the outstanding work.
The original contractor, KNS Construction (Pty) Ltd, which was appointed by SANRAL in November 2010, commenced work in February 2011. After completing approximately 25% of the work the contractor notified its surety holders (Compass Insurance) in December 2011 that they would be unable to continue with the works contained in the contract. KNS Construction (Pty) is now in liquidation as at 11 January 2012.
Freese, Moll and Partners, acting on behalf of the surety holders, invited five selected contractors to tender on the completion of the works. The closing date for the tender was 20 January 2012The tenders are presently being evaluated, and a new contractor will be appointed in the near future.
The contract period for the completion of the works is 12 months. SANRAL is maintaining the presence of sub-contractors to ensure traffic safety operations and site security until the duties can be taken over by the new contractor.
