UPGRADING OF THE MOSS KOLNICK INTERCHANGE ON THE N2

The South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) has awarded a contract to Stefanutti Stocks Civils KZN (Pty) Ltd under the supervision of SSI Engineers and Environmental Consultants for the construction of the upgrading of the Moss Kolnick Interchange on National Route 2 section 24. Work commenced on 1 February 2010 and will continue for a period of 21 months up to 31 October 2011

The project comprises the construction of an interchange encompassing new ramps and a new bridge over the N2 constructed in two stages to replace the existing bridge which will be demolished. The upgraded interchange will improve access to and from the new Arbour Town developments. The project will also involve the construction of a retaining wall to accommodate the new south bound on-ramp at the Dickens Road interchange.

Access to the Moss Kolnick Interchange will remain open during construction and the new upgraded interchange will be constructed in a phased manner around the existing interchange. Ample signage will be erected to facilitate traffic accommodation during the construction period.

During temporary closure of either of the carriageways of the N2, traffic will be accommodated by contra flow traffic on the remaining carriageway. Temporary traffic windows will be constructed to provide access during the construction of the new bridges.

Motorists are advised to be observant of the advance warning signs, as well as the lane closures, and should exercise caution when travelling through the construction work zones. Reduced speed limits will be imposed and enforced on the N2 through the construction zones. Motorists are urged to observe all warning signs for their own safety and the safety of the workers on the road.
