UPDATED TRAFFIC ADVISORY
TEMPORARY RAMP CLOSURES ON N2/N3 EB CLOETE INTERCHANGE
Durban, 18 September 2025 – The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) wishes to advise motorists that the planned temporary ramp closure at EB Cloete Interchange, originally scheduled for the weekend of 20 – 22 September 2025, has been postponed until further notice.
“These works are part of the broader improvements to the Interchange. The temporary closures are necessary to accommodate construction activity in a safe and controlled manner. The postponed closure involved the temporary closure of the N2 Northbound to N3 Eastbound (from Amanzimtoti to Durban CBD) ramp. This closure will no longer take place as planned this weekend with a revised date to be communicated in due course. All other closures remain scheduled as previously communicated,” said Jason Lowe, SANRAL’s KwaZulu Natal Specialist Geometrics Engineer.

ALTERNATIVE ROUTES:
The following alternative route is provided for the closures affecting N2 Southbound to N3 Westbound (from Umhlanga to Pietermaritzburg) as follows:
• Closure 4: From 18:00, Saturday 04 October 2025 to 04:00, Monday 06 October 2025
Locally
- Take N2 off-ramp
- Keep left on-ramp towards Durban CBD
- Take Sherwood off-ramp
- Turn right at traffic light Turn right again and merge back onto N3 to Pietermaritzburg
Advanced
- Via M19 Via Pinetown
- Via M13 Via Sherwood
“SANRAL appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as it undertakes this vital project to alleviate long-term traffic congestion in the area and appeal to road users to note and comply with the advance warning signs and speed restrictions when travelling past the construction work zones. To prioritise the safety of both the construction workers and road users, the speed limit along the route is reduced during construction.” said Lowe.
